About Jay

Jay Robert Cullen was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1938 and moved to Frankfurt, Kentucky as an infant. Jay attended public schools and graduated from Princeton University in 1960. He joined the Navy immediately following graduation and then attended Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. He served in the U.S. Navy for five years and during this time he flew carrier based A4’s and A3’s in the Pacific Fleet. In 1965 he went to work for Delta Airlines. He and his wife had four daughters, Liza, Amy, Polly and Sarah.

Jay had many varied interests: biking, running, computers, reading, grandchildren, and daily Bible study. At the time of his death, he had just completed a six week bike ride from Anacortes, WA to Ocean City, MD. He rode with local friends Jim Rinehart, Joe Banister, and Frank Scevetecz. This was a 3000+ mile trip with the sag wagon assistance of his church friends Jim Hunt, Ron Monson, Bob Bowe, Larry Townsend and John Luranc.

The fact that Jay had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ has made the acceptance of his death possible. His inner strength that was demonstrated to many was a direct reflection of his strong walk with Christ. We, his family and church family, thank you for your interest in physical fitness and spiritual health and your participation in this 5K event.

“I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith”. 2 Timothy 4:7
